Polynesian Indigenous Knowledge Organization Michigan (PIKO) is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and sharing the rich cultural heritage of Polynesia, with a special focus on Native Hawaiian traditions. As Native Hawaiians and members of the Pacific Islander diaspora in Michigan, we are committed to nurturing our roots and perpetuating the cultural knowledge, values, and practices of our ancestors.
A Community for All Connected to Hawaiʻi:
While our primary mission centers on the preservation of Native Hawaiian culture, we recognize and honor the unique experiences of non-Hawaiians who were born and raised in Hawaiʻi. These individuals share a deep connection to the land, its people, and its traditions, and we welcome their participation in our efforts to foster cultural understanding and community building. Their shared love for Hawaiʻi and its values, such as aloha (love), kuleana (responsibility), and mālama ʻāina (caring for the land), unites us all in the effort to protect and preserve the spirit of the islands.
POLYNESIAN INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE ORGANIZATION - Exploring Culture Through Conversations
Polynesian Indigenous Knowledge Organization Michigan (PIKO) is a dedicated Polynesian cultural organization committed to preserving and promoting Polynesian traditions, especially for Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders living in Michigan’s diaspora and displacement. As we live far from our island home, our mission is to keep the spirit of Hawaiʻi alive through cultural education, community engagement, and traditional practices that foster identity and connection.
